Local Non-Profit Encouraging Dearborn Co. Residents To Consider Farming

Press release by GinnFarms (Aurora, Ind.) - A local non-profit is hoping to encourage Dearborn County residents to consider farming again.  GinnFarms is sponsoring several programs for the 2018 season that will create ways for local farmers to sell their goods.  Co-Founder, Trish Bellmore tells reporters, “We are in the planning stages of a Farm to Table delivery service to Dearborn and Ohio counties and are also speaking with local leaders about Farm to School programs for the 2018/2019 school year.” “Right now, we need producers!” Trish says.  “We’d like to see all of our friends and neighbors participate in our local food chain.  Maybe you don’t like to grow plants but you’re good with animals?  That’s good too, because we are looking for ways to supply fresh local protein as well. It’s not just about vegetables and fruits.” To get the community thinking about what their land would look like if it were growing fresh local food, GinnFarms has partnered with the Up Up! Film Festival.  This series of short films is a collection about the future of farming, featuring young farmers from around the world. Each explores questions of farmland access, rural livelihoods, and the relationships of people and place.  (http://www.thegreenhorns.net/up-up-farm-film-festival/) The project aims to spread young farmer stories far and wide — to the ears and eyes of entire communities and into the hands of aspiring farmers.   By sharing these stories through a festival format, GinnFarms hopes to generate dialogue within our community and provide a productive platform for a cross-pollination of ideas. Join us for the next 6 months as we learn more together.  The film series will be shown at the Lawrenceburg Library at 150 Mary Street, Lawrenceburg, IN  47025. Event dates are: June 20th, July 18th, August 8th, September 12th, and October 17th.  All events are 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Are you considering a career change?
