(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – The Buckeye Division of the 2014 Walmart Bass Fishing League returns to the Ohio River at Tanner’s Creek on Saturday. The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and are competing to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the Rayovac FLW Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour. Saturday’s Buckeye Division tournament will launch from the Tanners Creek Boat Ramp in Lawrenceburg. The winning fisherman is expected to bring in about nine pounds of bass. According to a BFL press release, the bass fishing on the Ohio River is expected to be good. The fish will be in typical summertime patterns and should be caught in the main river as well as in backwaters. Depending on water conditions, some anglers could make long runs to find ideal fishing conditions. As far as the lures the fishers will use, topwater baits, drop-shot rigs, Texas-rigged soft plastics, weightless soft plastics, buzzbaits, spinnerbaits and jigs are all likely to be popular choices.
