(Boone County, Ky.) – Siblings have been arrested and charged with one count each of Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.

On April 29, Boone County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Darlene Schloss, 60, and her brother, Stephen Troxell, 63.

The arrests came after deputies were dispatched to a home for an unconscious four-year-old female. The report came after Darlene Schloss arrived with the victim at a home in Union where the victim’s aunt resides. Schloss, who is the victim’s grandmother, reported to the aunt that the child had ingested a THC gummy the night before at her home on Bruce Drive.

Investigators say Troxell resides at the Bruce Drive home and was present with Schloss when the victim had eaten the gummy. According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, nearly 15 hours passed before Schloss arrived at the aunt’s house. It was then that 911 was dialed.

Upon arriving at the scene, the victim was breathing but was still unconscious and had a gray facial complexion. The victim was transported to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, where she remained hospitalized for two days before being released on Wednesday.

Investigators say Troxell bought the THC gummy from a local store and left it in an unsecure location within a room shared by the victim on Bruce Drive.

Schloss allegedly told deputies that she did not report the ingestion because Troxell made statements to her that if law enforcement were notified that they would “take her away”.

Both are currently lodged at the Boone County Detention Center and held on a $100,000 cash bond.
