Man Dies In Crash Near Versailles

Indiana State Police

(Versailles, Ind.) - A 23-year-old South Carolina man died in a crash on U.S. 50 near Versailles Saturday afternoon.

Indiana State Police say Mark Wesley Brax was driving east near the entrance to Versailles State Park when his 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix skidded sideways into the westbound lanes and struck a 2011 Toyota Highlander at about 2:30 p.m.

Brax was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a student at the University of Cincinnati.

The other driver, Donielle Stewart, 35, of Cincinnati, suffered fractured ankles and leg injuries.

Police said Brax may have been travelling too fast in the heavy rain and then hydroplaned.

Indiana State Police are still investigating the accident.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by Ripley County Sheriff’s deputies, Rescue 69, Ripley County Medic, and the Ripley County Coroner’s Office.
