Potraffke, 52, is accused of molesting a child on multiple occasions when the victim was under the age of 14 from 2007 until 2012, according to a probable cause affidavit. The victim disclosed the abuse to forensic interviewers at the Child Advocacy Center in Dillsboro in August. Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department detectives also spoke with the victim. In September, investigators spoke on the phone with Potraffke, who said he would contact them when he returned home from his job as an over-the-road truck driver. Despite several more calls and voicemails left by detectives, Potraffke never called to arrange an interview. Charges were filed on November 16. Potraffke was arrested on November 29. Dearborn Superior Court II Judge Sally A. McLaughlin set Potraffke’s bond at $100,000 surety and $25,000 cash. She cited the risk Potraffke poses to community safety, his risk of failure to appear based on information from the investigation, and his occupation as an over-the-road truck driver. Potraffke has also been ordered to have no contact with the victim. Two of the counts are class A felonies, each punishable by 20 up to 50 years. The other five counts against Potraffke are class C felonies, which carry a sentence of two to eight years each. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for January 30, 2018.
