(Bright, Ind.) - An upcoming 5K run/walk aims to bring awareness to the dangers of distracted driving. The fifth annual Jack’s Forever 3 5K Run takes place Saturday, September 10 in Bright. The event will begin and end at Bright Christian Church on Stateline Road starting at 9:00 a.m. Race day registration is at 7:30. Each September, the Jack’s Forever 3 Foundation Inc. holds a 5K run/walk in the memory of Jack Allan Carpenter. In 2010, three-year-old Jack was killed while playing a game of tag when he ventured out in the street and was struck by a truck that was being driven by a distracted driver. Through the 5K run/walk, Jack’s Forever 3 Foundation is dedicated to bringing awareness to the dangers of distracted driving and improving the lives of children within the community. Jack’s mother, Beth Fox, has done her part to raise awareness as well. In 2015, after 4 ½ years of fundraising, Fox, her family, and friends donated nearly $22,000 to the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department to purchase a driving simulator with more than 200 different types of driving scenarios. The simulator developed by Oklahoma-based Simulator Systems, Inc. will be on hand at the 5K event for participants to see and use. The 5K is a race for both serious runners and families. Aside from the race, kids will enjoy face painting and multiple other fun activities. Pre-registration cost $25 with a t-shirt or $20 without a t-shirt. Race day registration is $30 with a t-shirt while supplies last. Monetary donations will also be accepted. To register or make a donation, visit www.runningtime.net/.
