(Kenton County, KY) - At the start of the week, there had been just over a dozen H1N1-related deaths in Kentucky.
None of them had occurred in Northern Kentucky. That is until the past couple days.
On Tuesday, the Northern Kentucky Health Department announced that a Kenton County woman in her mid-50s became the 15th swine flu death in the state and the first in the region.
The department said the woman died from complications related to the illness, but the date and place of her death were not released.
Just a day later on Wednesday, the health department announced that a second woman, also from Kenton County, died of H1N1. The woman in her 60s was suffering from underlying health conditions.
The two Kenton County deaths were unrelated according to health department officials.
With the swine flu deaths of two women in Jefferson County, Ky. this week, the state's total death toll from H1N1 now stands at 18.
