(Lawrenceburg, IN) - There's a new person holding public office in Dearborn County, and they did not even have to run for election.
County Councilman Charlie Fehrman has been on county council for many years, but left the post last month because he got a new job out of the area.
In a meeting on Thursday, the Dearborn County Republican Caucus selected former Dearborn County Administrator Bryan Messmore to fill Fehrman's seat.
Messmore will complete Fehrman's current term, which will last until January 1, 2013.
Since his county administrator position was not renewed by county commissioners earlier this year, Messmore has been working in the Dearborn County Prosecutor's Office as a Victims Advocate Coordinator.
Fehrman took the out-of-town job after his name was already set to appear on the November 2008 ballot. He acknowledged in meetings that he would likely be changing his residence and his seat would be vacated.
