(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - The woman accused of leaving the scene of a deadly accident in Dearborn County was in court Wednesday morning.
Christy Shackelford-Grammer, of Sunman, had nearly two dozen supporters, friends, and family look on as she had a ten minute pre-trial hearing in Dearborn Superior Court I.
No plea deal has been offered by prosecutors yet saying that additional charges could still be forthcoming as the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The case is set for a jury trial next March if there is no plea reached. The next court date prior to the trial has been set for Feb. 22.
A friend had sent a letter to Judge Jonathan Cleary supporting Shackelford-Grammer. Cleary turned the letter over to the defense attorney saying that he cannot currently consider such material in the case.
Shackelford-Grammer drove away from the scene in her truck after hitting and killing three-year-old Jack Carpenter on North Dearborn Road near Henderson Road last September. She told police she was distracted and thought she had hit a deer.
She reported herself to police later Tuesday night after reading news reports about the accident.
