Not only did GOP candidates win, they did so in dominating fashion in most every race.
“Most of our candidates worked very, very hard and I guess I’m surprised at the landslide it turned out to be,” said Dearborn County Republican Party chairman Allen Goodman.
Current chief deputy Mike Kreinhop won the sheriff’s election with 69 percent of the vote over Democrat Charles Combs. He will take the place of term-limited sheriff Dave Lusby come January 1, 2011.
Shane McHenry became the District 3 Commissioner-elect with 70 percent of the vote as he denied Democrat Jim Shuler. McHenry also had strong support as he defeated current commission president Ralph Thompson in the May primary.
The closest county race of the evening was a 19 point victory for county government newcomer Jim Hughes. He unseated longtime District 3 Democrat incumbent Tom Cheek 59.5 to 40.5 percent.
Hughes’ win gives Republicans a larger advantage on the Dearborn County Council.
Dennis Kraus, another Republican, held the District 4 Council seat 69.5 to 30.5 percent over Democrat Jake Hoog.

“I’m very happy for all of our candidates and looking forward to the coming four years with a great Republican slate,” Goodman said.
It took a non-partisan race to bring about the most drama on election night. The race for Sunman-Dearborn School Board District four may need a recount after unofficial results show Glenn Scholl defeated Sandra Eppert by only six votes, 2,668 to 2,662.
In other Sunman-Dearborn board races Joyce Huffman won District 6 over James Bojack 66 to 34 percent. Michael Norman slid by Arlis Engle 52.3 to 47.7 percent in District 1.
Two contested Lawrenceburg School Board races were within ten points. District 1 was won by Bryan Johnson with 54.9 percent to Linda Mumfrey-Harper’s 45.1. Greg McAdams won District 3 opposing Brian Niewedde 55 to 45 percent.
