The Indiana Democrat Party paid for and sent out a mailer this week promoting Libertarian candidate Greg Knott as “the real conservative” candidate.
Most polls suggest the Ninth District race is a toss-up between Hill and Republican Todd Young, but enough votes for Knott could split the Election Day totals enough to give Hill the edge.
"This tactic by Rep. Baron Hill and the Indiana Democrat Party is one of the most underhanded political stunts I have ever seen. It represents the worst sort of political cynicism and makes it clear that they have no faith in Baron Hill to win this race on his own merits,” said Indiana GOP Chairman Murray Clark.
Democrat Chair Dan Parker shot back at the “underhanded” comment saying it is clearly noted that the mailer was paid for by the Indiana Democrat Party.
Knott, who said the mailer is only half-true, told the Louisville Courier-Journal that he should send a thank you card to Democrats, because he has limited campaign funds to spend on his own advertising.
“It’s true but intentionally misleading because it omits the fact that I’m also the only real progressive in this race on the most important issues,” Knott said in a statement.
