The Dearborn County man won $200,000 in the Oct. 6 Powerball with Power Play drawing. He claimed his prize at Hoosier Lottery headquarters Oct. 22 and walked away a happy man.
The ticket was purchased at West Side Liquors on State Street in West Harrison.
“It’s about time his ship came in!” said Messerschmidt’s sister, Sherry “Punky” Kater who accompanied him as he claimed his prize.
Messerschmidt is a regular Big Jackpot Game player who says he spends $5 playing Powerball every week. He bested odds of 1 : 5,138,133 to win the $200,000 prize by matching the first five numbers, but not the Powerball number on Oct. 6.
His lucky quick pick numbers were 14-26-37-41-46 and Powerball 24.
With his winnings, Messerschmidt says he intends to take care of his daughter and possibly take a vacation to Australia.
