(Versailles, Ind.) - A local teacher may be in trouble because of alleged misconduct he had with a student.
The Versailles Republican is reporting that South Ripley High School teacher Ed Newman is being investigated for e-mails he sent to an 18-year-old female student.
Newman is the sponsor of this year’s senior class and coaches track and cross country. According to the Indiana Department of Education, Newman has 19 years of teaching experience
Indiana State Police are looking into the allegations and will turn over their findings to the Ripley County Prosecutor’s Office who will decide if charges are necessary.
Meanwhile, South Ripley School Superintendent John Mehrle will only say that a teacher has been suspended with pay. Indiana law prevents school administrators from talking about specific personnel issues.
