(Holton, Ind.) – A 53-year-old man was hurt in an ATV crash Saturday evening in western Ripley County.

The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office says Lawrence E. Smith, Jr. was driving the Arctic Cat quad runner across a bean field near the 9000 block of Fairground Road near Holton when he lost control.

Smith was thrown from the vehicle and suffered head and internal injuries. Deputies say he was not wearing a helmet.

A medical helicopter took Smith to University of Cincinnati Hospital.

The ATV accident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office. Assisting at the scene were Holton Fire Department, Rescue 69, Ripley County Medic and the Department of Natural Resources.
