(Middletown, Oh.) - It was a local teen who was seriously hurt in a skydiving accident in Middletown, Ohio this past weekend.
Bettina Thompson, 17, of Greendale, was jumping Sunday with Team Fastrax at Middletown’s Hook Field according to the Dayton Daily News. She was trying to turn her parachute, which had deployed correctly, as she approached her landing.
Thompson came down hard about a half-mile away from her target landing area and suffered a number of broken bones. She continues to recover at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
She is a senior student at Lawrenceburg High School and was working as a hostess at the Lawrenceburg Frisch’s Big Boy restaurant. She played on the LHS softball team.
Sunday's accident occurred during her first ever jump.
The skydiving accident remains under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration. The newspaper reports this is the third incident Team Fastrax has been investigated for in the past year.
