The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office has three suspects in custody - Kenyatta Erkins, 35, of New York state; Ugbe Ojile, 34, of Cincinnati; and Amy Hoover, 25, also from Cincinnati.
Police allege the trio are responsible for 26 such robberies in Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky dating back to February.
They would follow winners home from casinos then rob them of their cash at gunpoint accumulating what Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph Deters called “hundreds of thousands of dollars.”
The arrests came early Thursday morning when police set up a sting at Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg. An undercover office pretended to be an elderly winner, showing off wads of cash.
The suspects followed that undercover officer as he left the riverboat, then to a prearranged location in Hamilton County. That’s when they tried to rob him, but police were ready.
All three suspects are charged with robbery with more charges likely to be filed. Ojile and Erkins each face an additional charge of conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery.
Ojile and Erkins each face up to 28 years in prison. Hoover currently faces 10 years.
