(Rising Sun, Ind.) – The story of an elderly man hit by a car in Rising Sun Wednesday has come to a sad end.

James Burgess died from his injuries at University Hospital in Cincinnati within hours of the accident.

Rising Sun Police said the 81-year-old was crossing State Road 56 at 5^th Street in town just before 7:00 a.m. when he was hit by a passenger car. 

Officers said Burgess was wearing dark-colored clothing and may have been difficult for the driver to see as it was still relatively dark outside before dawn.

The driver did stop at the accident scene and is not expected to face charges.

Rising Sun police continue to investigate the accident.
