Rising Sun Police say James Burgess was attempting to cross State Road 56 at 5th Street when he was hit by a passenger car just before 7:00 a.m.
Aircare took Burgess, age unknown but reported to be elderly, to the hospital.
Officers say Burgess was wearing dark clothing and was hard for the driver to see.
The driver did stop after the collision and no charges are expected to be filed.
Update posted at 8:08 a.m.:
Rising Sun Fire Chief Kevin Armstrong tells Eagle 99.3 that an elderly man was crossing State Road 56 near 5th Street when he was hit by a passenger car.
The driver stopped at the scene.
The victim, whose name is not yet known, was in stable condition when he was transported by aircare to University Hospital in Cincinnati.
Rising Sun Police are still investigating.

(Rising Sun, Ind.) – Rising Sun Police are on the scene after a pedestrian was hit along a busy highway Tuesday morning.
Around 7:00 a.m., the report was called in at the corner of State Road 56 and 5th Street.
Dispatchers say aircare has been called to the scene.
No word on the name or age of the victim.
Traffic on State Road 56 is still passing by the accident scene.
