(Undated) – A Boone County teacher is in the running for Kentucky’s Teacher of the Year.
This week, the Kentucky Department of Education named 24 educators across the state as recipients of the 2011 Ashland Inc. Teacher Achievement Awards. Each of the winners are not eligible to become the state’s top teacher in 2011.
Tava Roberts, a first grade teacher at North Pointe Elementary in Hebron, was among the award winners.
She and the others will be recognized during a luncheon ceremony in Frankfort on Oct. 19 where the Kentucky Teacher of the Year will be named from three finalists.
Roberts has spent 14 years teaching, all in the Boone County Schools district.
Last year, Ryle High School teacher Durell “Butch” Hamm was named the Kentucky Teacher of the Year, an honor which won him a trip to the White House to meet President Barack Obama.
