Update at 6:28 p.m.:
Indiana State Police troopers say it was a three-year-old boy who was hit and killed by a truck on North Dearborn Road Tuesday afternoon.
Eagle 99.3 broke the story earlier this afternoon.
The child, Jack Carpenter, was outside the home located just a few dozen feet off the 2800 block of North Dearborn with his mother when he wandered into the road. Carpenter was then struck by a westbound pickup truck.
Police say that pickup is possibly a 2000 model Chevrolet with a two-tone paint job and cap. There may be damage to the front end of the truck.
The driver fled from the scene heading westbound towards North Dearborn Library.
Anyone with information should call the Dearborn County Sheriff's Office at (812) 537-3431. Callers can remain anonymous.

(Bright, Ind.) - Dearborn County police are on the scene of a fatal hit-and-run on North Dearborn Road.
Around 1:30, a pedestrian - possibly a child - was struck by a pickup truck along North Dearborn between Henderson and Dole roads. The driver did not stop.
Police are currently trying to locate a 1995 or newer model Chevrolet pickup truck, dark-colored two-tone truck with possible front end damage. It was last seen heading westbound on North Dearborn Road.

North Dearborn Road is closed to all traffic as the accident is investigated.
