Just over 952,000 people made their way to the state fairgrounds in Indianapolis for the 17-day event say fair organizers. That’s about 20,000 fewer than 2009’s attendance.
Though the number of people coming through the turnstyles was lower, the fair actually beat the pre-fair projected attendance of 900,000.
Heat is getting part of the blame for lower attendance. The National Weather Service reported the high temperature was above 92 degrees for seven days.
The fair may be shortened to 12 days in 2012.
