(Burlington, Ky.) - A Boone County father appears to be off-the-hook for criminal abuse charges.
Union resident Chris Robison was arrested last month for allegedly beating his five-year-old son over a game of hopscotch on July 4. Within days of the story making headlines, Robison began publicly insisting he hit his son twice on the buttocks with a belt for mouthing off, not because of hopscotch.
A Boone County Judge ruled Monday there was no probable cause to charge Robison with felony criminal abuse.
Prosecutors could still choose to file a misdemeanor charge or take the case to a grand jury
Robison, 46, also claimed that bruises on his son were not caused by abuse, but from a fall at the local pool earlier the same week.
A middle school teacher for Boone County Schools, Robison has been on leave from work during the investigation.
