(Greensburg, Ind.) - An appalling crime has landed a Greensburg mother behind bars.

Payton Wesley Ettinger was found dead in the family's home on East Meadow Drive last May 17. The child’s mother, Courtney Gail Tressler was arrested this week and charged Wednesday with Reckless Homicide and Neglect of a Dependent in connection with the death of the boy, who was disabled.

Tressler was released from the Decatur County jail on $15,000 bond Thursday.

Police allege Tressler starved her son to death, results of an autopsy show. He weighed only 12 pounds when he died.

She allegedly failed to take him to the doctor when she noticed he was losing weight. Investigators say Ettinger had not been to the doctor since 2006 although Tressler had been to a doctor herself a number of times since then.

Court documents show the boy had been disabled because of physical abuse as an infant by his father Martin Ettinger, who is jailed in Michigan on child abuse charges.
