(Brookville, Ind.) - It was a lot of chicken, but not enough to prevent the world record for being broken just a few weeks afterwards.
The Brookville Canoefest Fryers Club set the record during Canoefest July 2 at the Brookville Town Park. A massive 1,645 pounds of thighs, legs, breasts, wings and more were piled into a giant aluminum canoe and verified by the Guiness World Records to break the record set by Kentucky Fried Chicken in Kuwait.
KFC took back the claim they felt was rightfully theirs this week by frying 2,000 pounds in Louisville, unofficially. The product filled an eight-feet-tall by nine-feet-wide retro KFC bucket.
The record attempt was part of the chain’s 70th anniversary. Much of the chicken was donated to the Dare to Care Food Bank in Louisville.
No word yet if the Canoefest Fryers Club plans to try and regain the record.
