Press release from Indiana Department of Transportation
(Ohio County, Ind.) – The Indiana Department of Transportation advises motorists to drive with extra caution next week on State Road 56 between Aurora and Rising Sun.
Flaggers will be present —as needed—to direct traffic around Phase I construction activities at the highway’s intersection with Thuermer Hollow Road in Randolph Township, Ohio County.
J.R. Jurgensen Company, the state’s contractor, is readying a borrow pit that will provide fill dirt for the $3.7 million Major Moves project that will:
- Moderate curves on both S.R. 56 and Thuermer Hollow Road.
- Make sight distance corrections while raising some roadbed by as much at 14 feet
- Realign the S.R. 56-Theurmer Hollow Road intersection
The project includes full-depth pavement construction, installation of a 3-sided box culvert, pipe work and landscaping.
Excavation for drainage pipes and placement of temporary pavement for a future traffic shift may occur yet this construction season. Phase II construction is scheduled to begin next spring with moderate impact to S.R. 56 traffic. INDOT does not anticipate significant disruptions in travel.
The contract completion date is October 3, 2014.
