Press release from Rising Sun Navy Bean Fall Festival
(Rising Sun, Ind.) - There is something for every age person at the 2013 Navy Bean Fall Festival. This year’s festival, the 26th annual, is Friday, October 11, 5:30-10 p.m., and Saturday, October 12, 10:30 a.m.-10p.m., in downtown Rising Sun and the beautiful Riverfront Park.
Country band Restless Heart and STARSHIP featuring Mickey Thomas will perform free concerts at this year’s Navy Bean Fall Festival in Rising Sun, Indiana. Restless Heart was one of RCA’s greatest band success stories of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, turning out a series of gold-selling albums, garnering a host of award nominations. Their hits include “I’ll Still Be Loving You,” “Tender Lie,” “Why Does It Have To Be (Wrong or Right),” “When She Cries,” “Bluest Eyes In Texas,” and “Dancy’s Dream.” Restless Heart will perform Friday, October 11, 2013 at 8:30pm. STARSHIP featuring Mickey Thomas will take the main stage on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 8:30pm. Mickey Thomas is the owner of the soaring voice that propelled STARSHIP through the decades of the ‘80s and 90s. With his soulful and compelling vocals, Mickey has established himself as one of Rock Music’s most recognizable stars. Popular hits through the year by STARSHIP and Mickey Thomas” include “Fooled Around and Fell In Love (with The Elvin Bishop Band),” “Jane” and “Miracles” (Jefferson Starship),” “No Way Out,” “We Built This City,” “Nothing Gonna Stop Us Now,” “Find Your Way Back,” “Stranger”, “Laying It On The Line” and “It’s Not Over Till It’s Over”.
Along with the free entertainment on the festival’s Main Stage, the weekend will offer a parade, Kids Zone with free entertainment for children, rides, games, booths, and food with the festival’s namesake homemade navy bean soup served with cornbread in the navy bean soup tent on the riverbank. The soup will be served beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday until 9:00pm and beginning at Noon on Saturday until 7pm.
Not far from the soup tent is the Festival Main Stage where the new Miss Navy Bean Fall Festival will be crowned beginning at 5:30pm. The Julie Stinchcomb Quintet will open the Friday night live entertainment schedule at 6:30p.m. They are a jazz quintet, playing classical jazz. At 8:30pm, nationally recording country artists, Restless Heart will take the stage.
Saturday’s festivities begin at 10:30am with the Festival Parade. The Main Stage entertainment begins at 12:30pm with the Crosswalk Gospel Trio from Terra Haute, Indiana. Then ladies, get ready to scream and swoon as our local, favorite Elvis impersonator, Mike Davis, takes the stage at 2:30pm. At 4:15pm, the American Legion Post 59 and P.G. Gentrup will honor local Veterans. Dan Lusk, Illusionist, will work his magic on the main stage beginning at 5:30pm. The Vigor Band from Cincinnati, Ohio will perform an extensive repertoire of music from the ‘50s, ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s at 6:30pm. Our closing act this year, STARSHIP featuring Mickey Thomas, will rock the riverfront beginning at 8:30pm.
A 5K Walk/Run hosted by the Rising Sun United Methodist Church will take place at 9:00am on Saturday morning at the Boat Landing on Front Street.
The Waters of Rising Sun will serve host an afternoon of fun, featuring bean soup, desserts and live music and bingo for Senior Citizens in Heritage Hall after the parade. The live entertainment begins at 1:00pm with Kenny& The Relics; 3:30-Richard Scott and 4:30pm-Novelty Bingo.
Daniel Lusk Entertainment will provide free magic, face painting and balloon artistry for the kids under the Main Street Pavilion on Friday night and Saturday afternoon.
All festival music and entertainment is sponsored by the City of Rising Sun and is free of charge. Feel free to bring a lawn chair for seating at the Main Festival Stage.
