(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – The annual celebration of the start of the Fall season gets underway Thursday with the aptly titled Lawrenceburg Fall Fest.
Fall Fest runs Thursday, September 26 through Saturday, September 28 along Walnut Street in downtown Lawrenceburg. The festival is organized by the I Luv Lawrenceburg Committee and City of Lawrenceburg.
Known as much for its free childrens’ rides and showcasing of Dearborn County organizations, Fall Fest brings some of the biggest names in music to the Spirit City. On Friday night, country star and “Dancing with the Stars” champion Kellie Pickler performs prior to fellow Nashville artist Jamey Johnson, known for his 2008 hit “In Color.”
On Saturday’s rock & roll night, the feature acts are Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Richie Furay (formerly of Buffalo Springfield and Poco), Outlaws, another rock hall of famer in Dave Mason (formerly of Traffic), Burton Cummings (formerly of The Guess Who), and Grammy winner Dickey Betts (formerly of the Allman Brothers).
Local acts are scattered through the weekend as well. Wade & Murphy, The Wild Bunch, and The Whiskey City Ramblers will appear on Thursday. Borrowed Blue starts the Friday night main stage lineup. Show choirs from Lawrenceburg and South Dearborn schools will perform on Saturday afternoon before the Fall Fest Junior Idol and Fall Fest Adult Idol singing competitions begin at 2:30 and 3:30, respectively.
Other Fall Fest highlights will be the chili cook-off at the Dearborn County Heart and Lung Health Walk 5K, Lawrenceburg Fire House on Tate Street, and Car Show on Saturday. The Fall Fest King and Queen Contest takes place Saturday at 7:00 p.m., followed by the naming of the Citizen of the Year at 7:15. Fireworks top off the night Saturday.
Much to families’ delight, the rides are free all weekend.
