(Verona, Ky.) – A man is dead and two other people – one of them a child – were seriously injured in a crash late Thursday night in Verona.
Boone County Sheriff’s deputies suspect that speed and alcohol may have contributed to the single-vehicle crash at around 10:00 p.m. on the 14000 block of Walton Verona Road-Kentucky 16.
Deputies said the driver, Christopher Peace, 29, of Verona, lost control of the 2012 Fiat 500 he was driving near Stephenson Mill Road. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree before coming to a rest upside down in a ditch.
Peace was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two passengers – Jonathan Huston, 31, of Covington, and Peace’s son, seven-year-old Travis Peace – were injured. Huston was taken by aircare to UC Medical Center with reportedly life-threatening injuries. The younger Peace was flown to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The accident is still under investigation by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit.
Anyone with information concerning the collision is asked to notify the Boone County Sheriff’s Office at (859) 334-2175.
