U.S. Rep. Luke Messer
(Washington, D.C.) - Indiana Sixth District Congressman Luke Messer (R-Shelbyville) is in on a meeting about Syria Wednesday afternoon.
Messer sits on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, which is holding a hearing focusing on possible U.S. involvement in the Syrian civil war. He is a member of the committee's subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa.
President Barack Obama is seeking congressional authorization on a limited military strike in Syria. Messer has said he wants Congress to return to Washington immediately and debate what action, if any, the U.S. should take in Syria. The next session doesn’t start until Monday.
Messer has said he could support the President's proposed action in Syria, but Obama must continue to make the case.
“Either what happened in Syria is a big deal or not and if it is a big deal, then we need to act now,” Messer said on CNBC Monday.
