(Undated) - Still about three months ahead of the election the two candidates for Ninth District Congressman from Southeast Indiana are jabbing at each other regularly.

On Tuesday, Democrat incumbent Baron Hill’s campaign team called Republican Todd Young “out of touch” for being the beneficiary of an unpublicized fundraiser held by House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH).
“Todd Young claims to run as a political outsider, but he continues to rely on the Washington establishment to help him get elected,” said Daniel Altman, Communications Director for Hill’s campaign. “He has been taking Washington’s talking points, now he is taking their money. Even worse, he refuses to tell the voters where he stands on the issues and tries to hide who is helping him raise money.”
The lashing from Hill’s camp may have been brought on by a news release from Todd Young on Monday which accused the congressman of failing to return $26,000 donated to his campaign by Rep. Charlie Rangle (D-NY), who is being pressured to resign following an ethics violation scandal.
"These are very serious violations of the public trust, during a time when trust in Washington is already at a historic low," Young said. "If Mr. Hill is not going to return this money, he owes an explanation to his constituents. Short of this, Hoosiers can only assume he is complicit in Rangel's corruption."
Baron Hill has been campaigning in the area this week during Congress’ August recess. He spent Tuesday walking from Jonesville to Columbus speaking with constituents.
On Friday, Hill announced he accepted offers to appear at debates held by Vincennes University and Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs. Young has not announced his intentions on attending.
Young offered Hill the opportunity to meet face-to-face with constituents in several locations in the Ninth District - including Madison and Lawrenceburg – following a telephone conference-style town hall meeting held by Hill July 26.
