(Verona, Ky.) - A dog and her 12 puppies were killed in a fire in southern Boone County Tuesday morning.

A mobile home in the 1500 block of Stephenson Mill Road in Verona caught fire when a clothes dryer became faulty say firefighters.

No people were hurt, but the family’s pit bull dog and her new litter of puppies died.

Firefighters say the family of five who lived there was not insured and are now being helped by the Red Cross.
