(Indianapolis, Ind.) - A former Franklin County Sheriff’s reserve deputy accused of distributing child pornography on the internet remains in federal custody in Indianapolis.
Last week, Derek Walton, 31, of Liberty, was arrested on charges of child exploitation in U.S. District Court of Southern Indiana.
On Friday, Walton waived a preliminary examination and a detention hearing, meaning he will remain behind bars in Marion County until his trial. A trial date has not been set.
U.S. Attorney for Southern Indiana Joe Hogsett alleges Walton distributed child pornography online through an AOL email account and had a hidden camera in his home containing images of an underage girl. A USB drive containing images was hidden behind a mirror in his bedroom. The items were found during an August 16 raid of his home.
Walton was a jail officer at the Franklin County Security Center in Brookville. He served as a reserve deputy with the sheriff’s office since 2004.
