Michael Moore is accused of murdering his parents Warren and Madge Moore in 2009. His trial begins this week.
(Boone County, Ky.) - A double murder trial almost four years in the making will begin in Boone County Circuit Court Monday.
Former sheriff’s deputy Michael Moore is accused in the June 2009 murders of his parents, Warren and Madge Moore, in their home in Union. The 43-year-old’s trial will begin Monday with jury selection after four years of delays and continuances.
The murder trial is expected to last as long as seven weeks, the Kentucky Enquirer reports. If convicted, Moore could be sentenced to death.
Moore lived with his parents in their Union home. Police responded to a 911 call in June 2009. Warren – the former mayor of Union – and Madge were each found dead of gunshot wounds to the head.
Michael Moore was in the home suffering from a leg wound. He has previously claimed that a masked intruder shot him and his parents. Investigators believe Moore shot himself in the leg in a cover-up attempt.
The Enquirer reports that Moore may be changing his defense to claim self defense from his parents.
Investigators say Moore, a former Warren County, Ohio sheriff’s deputy, was battling with his parents over a prescription painkiller addiction.
