Hamilton County Sheriff's Deputy Tom Lange was seriously when his vehicle was rear-ended by a semi on I-275 Wednesday afternoon.
(Whitewater Township, Oh.) - A Hamilton County Sheriff's deputy seriously injured in a crash on Interstate 275 Wednesday is out of the hospital.
Deputy Tom Lange was released from University of Cincinnati Medical Center Thursday morning. The sheriff’s office said the 15-year veteran is expected to make a full recovery.
Lange was inside his cruiser when it was stopped in the left-hand lane on I-275 eastbound near the Indiana-Ohio border to warn upcoming motorists about a disabled vehicle further ahead. That disabled vehicle had reportedly been struck by lightning as storms rolled through the area Wednesday afternoon.
The trucker had changed from the right to the left lane to avoid hitting a motorcycle that had slowed after seeing Lange’s parked cruiser. The semi jack-knifed before slamming into the rear of Lange’s cruiser.
Firefighters had to cut Lange, 39, from his mangled commission before airlifting him to the hospital.
The sheriff’s office says the truck driver, Michael Brunner, 52, of Sunman, has been cited for failure to control his vehicle. The crash is still being investigated.
