(Ripley County, Ind.) - Aircare took two people to the hospital following a crash in Ripley County Sunday afternoon.
Sheriff’s deputies say a 2005 Chrysler minivan and a 1999 Chevrolet SUV collided at the crest of a hill on County Road 400 East just south of County Road 300 South at about 3:39 p.m.
The driver of the SUV, Joshua Welch, 18, of Dillsboro, and his 17-year-old passenger were both flown to University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Cincinnati. The minivan driver, Sandra Peak, 43, of Dillsboro, went to Margaret Mary Health in Batesville. Deputies said each victim suffered broken bones.
Deputies were not sure if any of the occupants had their seatbelts on at the time of the crash. Airbags did deploy in each vehicle.
The crash is still under investigation by the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office. Assisting at the scene were Indiana State Police, Versailles Fire/ Extrication, Rescue 30, and Ripley County Paramedics.
Sheriff Tom Grills reminds citizens that while traveling county roads to remain as far on the right side of the road as possible while approaching hilltops or curves, as some of the roads are narrow in places. Please use caution.
