(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Governor Mike Pence announced Thursday that Republican Dwayne Sawyer will be named as Auditor of State for Indiana.
Sawyer, who is completing the remainder of former Auditor Tim Berry’s term, began his political career in 2005.
“I know Dwayne Sawyer will serve all the people of Indiana with professionalism and integrity as our new Auditor”, said Governor Pence.
Sawyer will have four primary duties as Auditor: accounting for all of the state's funds; overseeing and disbursing county, city, town and school tax distributions; paying the state’s bills; and paying the state’s employees.
Sawyer, who graduated from Purdue University, has experience with financial systems, information technology and project management. He was named as Brownsburg Town Council president in 2012. Sawyer also serves as the Secretary of the 4th District Republican Committee; Executive Committee of Hendricks County Republican Party; serves on the Board of Directors of the Indiana Leadership Forum; and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Hendricks County Regional Health YMCA.
This year Governor Pence appointed Sawyer to serve on the Indiana Commission on the Social Status of Black Males. Sawyer will be sworn-in on Monday, August 19.
