George Street Bridge in downtown Aurora.
(Aurora, Ind.) - Phase Two of the State Road 56 reconstruction through downtown Aurora is poised to begin.
Crews with Paul Rohe Construction have been working on a $2 million project installing new asphalt, curbs, gutters, ADA-compliant sidewalks, street approaches, and landscaping. Ground was broken in June and Rick Weaver with the construction company says the goal is to have the project completed by mid-November.
Starting on Tuesday, August 13, the George Street Bridge will be closed as part of Phase Two of the SR 56 reconstruction. Weaver said planners will push to have the George Street Bridge reopened by the time the Aurora Farmers Fair begins October 2.
During Phase Two of the project, work will take place from Judiciary Street at Third Street to Importing Street to Main Street, where the George Street Bridge crosses Hogan Creek into downtown. That stretch will be off-limits to traffic.
Access to Applewood Restaurant will be limited to Second Street, Weaver said.
Third Street, previously closed during Phase One, will be reopened to traffic through downtown Aurora.
