(Milan, Ind.) – A passerby spotted a vehicle in a ditch Monday morning in Ripley County.
At about 3:49 a.m., a driver reported a crash on State Road 350/West Indian Trail just West of Milan, according to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy responding to the scene near 275 State Road 350 located a maroon 1989 Mercury passenger car in the ditch along the highway.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Paul Roach, 53, of Napoleon. He suffered a large laceration to his left arm above the elbow and a laceration to his head. He was flown by STAT Flight to University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Roach told deputies he had fallen asleep at the wheel when he ran off the road. Evidence at the scene suggests the vehicle traveled left of center, into the ditch, back on the road in the eastbound lane, then back into the ditch where it came to rest, deputies said.
Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash, said deputies. Roach was wearing his seatbelt.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office.
