(Milan, Ind.) - A motorcycle driver managed to avoid a collision with an SUV in Ripley County, but the maneuver to avoid the impact sent a passenger on the bike flying.
The accident happened Friday afternoon on State Road 101 north of East County Road 200 North, according to Indiana State Police. A 2004 assembled chopper driven by John Mushong, 44, of Milan, was headed northbound when a southbound SUV driven by Dustin Baylor, 31, also of Milan, made a left turn in front of the motorcycle.
Mushong swerved to avoid the collision successfully, but his passenger and wife, Joan Mushong, was thrown off the bike.
Joan Mushong, 49, suffered serious head trauma, as well as cuts and abrasions. She was flown to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Her condition Monday is not known.
Troopers noted that John Mushong was able to maintain control of his motorcycle and neither vehicle suffered any damage.
Indiana State Police are investigating the crash and say neither of the Mushongs were wearing a helmet. Neither driver has been cited yet.
Assisting troopers at the scene were Milan Police Department, Milan Fire Department, Milan Rescue 30, and Ripley County Sheriff’s Deputies.
