(Rising Sun, Ind.) – A funeral director and landlord is accused of grabbing the breasts of two women on multiple occasions.
Fred Taylor, 74, was charged Thursday with two counts of Sexual Battery (Class D felony) in Ohio County Circuit Court. Taylor owns and operates Humphrey-Taylor-Detmer Funeral Home in Rising Sun and also owns rental properties in the area.
One of those renters went to Rising Sun Police on May 3 to report that Taylor had touched her sexually, according to a court affidavit. Rising Sun Police handed the investigation to Indiana State Police because Taylor is an appointed member of a City of Rising Sun board.
The alleged female victim told investigators that Taylor had entered her North Walnut Street apartment – which she had been renting for about one month – on May 2 and grabbed her breast under her shirt, skin to skin.
State police detectives provided the woman with a video and audio recorder on May 6. That same day, Taylor came to the apartment. In reviewing the video, investigators allegedly saw Taylor “putting his arms around Robinson and attempting to pull her close to him, at which point Robinson pulled away and Taylor’s hand makes contact with Robinson’s breast,” according to the affidavit.
The footage also captured Taylor allegedly asking (the victim) “You don’t want any?” Investigators said the video also recorded Taylor allegedly asking Robinson if she was mad at him for touching her.
On May 16, a second alleged victim came forward to Indiana State Police. The woman, also a renter at the same North Walnut Street apartment building, told police that Taylor had also touched her breast on May 13 and several other occasions. The second victim’s fiancée had died less than one day before the May 13 incident, investigators learned.
“(The victim) told (the detective) that Taylor stated ‘I heard your man died…..Baby, if you need some loving just let me know,’” investigators wrote in the affidavit.
Indiana State Police also provided the second victim with a video and audio recording, however, she was unable to capture any criminal behavior by Taylor.
The detectives spoke with Taylor on July 8. He allegedly admitted to placing his hand on the first victim’s breast. He told the investigators that he had only hugged the second victim, but to his knowledge did not touch her breasts.
“I guess I goofed up,” Taylor said when the detectives told him that they had video evidence of an encounter with the first victim.
Taylor has not been arrested as of Friday morning. He was reached at his office Friday, but directed a request for comment to his attorney, who was not immediately available.
