David S. Hopper, 46, is accused of attempting to rape a woman at gunpoint at an Aurora shoe store in 2004.
He’s already been convicted of rapes in Ohio and Kentucky dating back to 1992.
Hopper, formerly of Burlington, Ky., was set to go to trial on Monday, Aug. 2 in Dearborn Circuit Court. Last Friday, however, Judge James H. Humphrey granted a continuance which will not allow the trial to begin until October 4.
The rape suspect could be sent to prison for 118 years if convicted on all charges he faces in connection with the Aurora attack. Those charges include Criminal Deviate Conduct, Attempt to Commit Rape, Robbery, Criminal Confinement with a Deadly Weapon, and Sexual Batter – all felonies.
