(Brookville, Ind.) - A deer can do a lot of damage when hit by a vehicle, but the damage is usually not life-threatening to humans unless that vehicle is a motorcycle.
Such was the case about 5:23 Monday evening when a deer bounded into the path of a motorcycle on St. Mary’s Road just south of Wolf Creek Road.
Indiana State Police say the biker, 61-year-old Roy E. Miller, of Brookville, was unable to avoid a head-on collision with the animal. Eyewitnesses reported Miller was driving at about 45 MPH, the posted speed limit.
The 1996 Harley-Davidson skidded for nearly 80 feet before stopping.
Miller died at the scene as aircare arrived to take him to the hospital.
Indiana State Police say Miller was not wearing a helmet. The accident remains under investigation.
