(Ripley County, Ind.) – The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for tips in tracking the people responsible for a recent series of blown up mailboxes.
Sheriff Tom Grills said Wednesday there have been several reports in the area of Delaware Township as well as other portions of the county regarding explosives being detonated in mailboxes. The subjects then flee.
“The explosive, most likely a firework of some type, has caused the damage,” Grills said.
Anybody with information on those responsible for the mischief, call the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office at (812) 689-5555 or the local police agency.
While fireworks are legal in Indiana, the sheriff points to state law that says it is illegal to possess a firework in certain instances or to misuse them.
Grills said that with the 4th of July approaching, he cautions residents that serious injury can occur when there is neglect in the use of fireworks.
