(Gallatin County, Ky.) – A passenger died and two other people were hurt when a vehicle flipped several times on Interstate 71 in Gallatin County Saturday morning.
Kentucky State Police say a vehicle driven by Timothy Hafenbreidel, 19, of Bismark, North Dakota was travelling north on I-71 near the 54 mile marker at about 3:31 a.m.
Preliminary investigation shows that Hafenbreidel’s vehicle struck a guardrail on the right shoulder of the road. The driver then overcorrected and the vehicle went into the median where it overturned several times.
A passenger, Ricky Lugo, 31, of Fostoria, Ohio was ejected from the vehicle. The Gallatin County Coroner pronounced Lugo dead at the scene, troopers said.
Hafenbreidel received life threatening injuries and was flown by medical helicopter to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
A second passenger, Kevin Clark, 23, of Pensacola, Florida was flown to the same hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Troopers say alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. The crash investigation is ongoing, led by Kentucky State Police.
