Press release from Indiana Department of Transportation
(Dearborn County, Ind.) - The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to close State Road 1 located 5¼ miles south of Interstate 74 in Dearborn County for up to 33 days beginning Monday, July 8. Construction crews have been contracted to correct landslide conditions that exist at that location.
INDOT will detour motorists via I-74 and I-275 around the S.R. 1 closure.
$212,523 in emergency funding has been appropriated to correct the slide. Paul Rohe Company is the state’s contractor.
Rohe is charge with digging out more than fifteen feet of soil and loose stone to establish a stable foundation on solid rock. Crews will install a deep drain on the high side of the roadway and seal water away from the rock and stone. Rip rap will be placed to secure embankments.
During the closure, several hundred feet of S.R. 1 will be reconstructed to accommodate two 12-foot lanes with 2-foot shoulders.
