(Aurora, Ind.) – Two people were hospitalized following a crash on U.S. 50 in Aurora Wednesday night.
Indiana State Police say the crash happened at about 9:03 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. 50 and State Road 148.
Troopers spoke to witnesses who said a 2000 Ford Explorer driven by a 16-year-old from Aurora was eastbound on U.S. 50 when she ran a red light and broadsided a 2007 Jeep Liberty driven by Bonnie Banschbach, 64, also of Aurora. Banschbach had just pulled into the U.S. 50 intersection from Manchester Landing.
Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles although the teen was able to free herself from the vehicle before emergency crews arrived. Banschbach had to be extricated from her vehicle by Aurora Fire Department.
Both drivers were transported to Dearborn County Hospital with non life threatening injuries.
Troopers cited the teen for Disregarding an Automatic Signal.
State police were assisted at the scene by Aurora Police Department, Aurora Fire Department, and Lawrenceburg and Aurora EMS.
