(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – Dearborn and Ohio County Prosecutor Aaron Negangard announced that starting June, 1st 2013 the Dearborn and Ohio County Prosecutor's Office, Child Support Enforcement Division and the WorkOne Center Southeast teamed up to implement a joint program to provide employment related services to parents experiencing problems meeting their child support obligations.
The Dearborn and Ohio County Prosecutor's Office, Child Support Division's primary responsibility is to establish paternity and collect child support on behalf of children in the State of Indiana. With approximately 1,900 open child support cases in both Dearborn and Ohio County, hundreds involving criminal charges, and all involving family and children. Options that promote family and community needs and reduce government involvement are important. This partnership allows for a balanced approach to more effectively encourage persons to support their children while limiting the necessity of government involvement.
The WorkOne Center, Southeast located in Lawrenceburg is the heart of Indiana's workforce development system, which helps Hoosiers get back to work, find new careers, access training or get the information needed to find jobs and develop skills needed to succeed in today's work place. This joint program may be voluntary or Court ordered, but the objective is to help families become self-sufficient and avoid the personal and financial costs of unemployment, poverty and civil or criminal child support enforceinent. By voluntarily registering with WorkOne for an intensive job search and training, individuals who are having trouble supporting their children can forestall future criminal charges and enhance your work skills and knowledge.
WorkOne offers quality services with absolutely no cost to the individual other than their time. Their programs include employment services to Veterans, for whom they have onsite veteran's representatives; adult education which gives individuals the opportunity to earn GED certificates; computer and technical skill training; and, "on line" courses in employment skills. Financial assistance for formal training is available for qualified individuals.
Other services include Re-Employment services in which they help you prepare for new employment opportunities. WorkOne offers Training for "Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG)" which is a program to keep young people in school through graduation. Services also include, On-The-Job Training which offers unemployed or underemployed individuals training for a new career while earning a paycheck; financial aid; monthly Workshops, vocational rehabilitation and other services that provide the tools needed to succeed in the work force.
