(Undated) - Power plants along the Ohio River may soon benefit from a decision expected by a multi-state commission.

The Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission is considering permitting more mercury in the river water, most likely coming from power plants.

ORSANCO, with its eight member states, is mulling a proposal which could allow more mercury or similar pollutants from industries if a company requests a variance.

There would have to be agreement by the commission and water regulators in each state to permit the variance.
