Carl E. Ascherman

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – A 20 year prison sentence has been handed down for a man who has pleaded guilty to molesting a teenage girl last year.
Carl Ascherman, 54, forced himself upon a 13-year-old girl – a friend of his daughter – who was staying the night at his Lawrenceburg apartment July 14, 2012. Ashcerman had smoked marijuana with his daughter and the victim prior to the molestation.
Last month, Ascherman voluntarily pleaded guilty to Attempt to Commit Child Molesting (Class B felony) and two counts of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor (Class A misdemeanors).
Dearborn Superior Court II Judge Sally Blankenship sentenced Ascherman to 20 years in prison with zero years suspended for the child molesting charge. He was given a year with no time suspended for each of the delinquency counts. The three sentences will be served concurrently, or at the same time.
He is to have no contact with either of the victims. The convict must also register as a sex offender for life.
“The impact of both girls is loss of trust in parental figures and continuing issues with self-esteem and relationships,” Blankenship said in the sentencing order. “The violation of trust is an aggravating factor which has victim impact beyond the elements of the crime.”
Ascherman is serving out his sentence with the Indiana Department of Corrections at the Pendleton Correctional Facility. According to the department’s website, his earlier possible release date is July 13, 2029.
A May 14 court filing indicated that he may be appealing his sentence.
