William C. Hoffman, Jr.
(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Final arguments are taking place Friday for a man accused of a shootout with police officers.
William Hoffman, Jr. is on trial this week for a June 2012 police standoff in Lawrenceburg. He allegedly fired a gunshot at police officers who had surrounded a home he was barricaded in following a reported domestic disturbance.
The trial began Tuesday in Dearborn Circuit Court. Hoffman faces a number of felony charges including Attempted Murder, Attempted Aggravated Battery, Attempted Battery with a Deadly Weapon, Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon, and Pointing a Firearm.
A number of the police officers who were involved in the standoff exactly one year ago, June 7, have been called to testify.
Jurors will deliberate Friday afternoon and could return a verdict before letting out for the weekend.
If he’s convicted, Hoffman faces up to 50 years behind bars.
